Frequently Asked Questions
To enrol for a course you need:
- To be at least 18 years old on the start date of the course or over 16 years old and not have done compulsory schooling in Catalonia.
- To demonstrate your level of Catalan proficiency by means of a certificate for a general CPNL course, a certificate issued by the ministry in charge of language policy in the Government of Catalonia, another equivalent certificate or doing a level test.
If you have never taken a course with the CPNL, we need to know your previous level of Catalan before the registration period begins.
You can determine your level online or in person at your nearest centre in two ways:
- By providing a Catalan certificate from the list of qualifications equivalent to the certificates of knowledge of Catalan of the competent department in matters of language policy of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
- By taking a placement test. Please note that the result of this test is valid for two years and does not equal an official certificate of knowledge.
If you complete this process online, please check the Guide to determining your level.
For more information about the next registration period, please check the Catalan courses registration page.
You can ask to do a level test online or in person at your nearest centre. You can ask to do this test at any time of year. To ensure you have the result so you can enrol, you need to apply no later than two working days before the start of the enrolment period. If you apply to do it outside this period, we can't guarantee that you'll have the result in time to enrol during the corresponding period.
We'll post the deadline for applying to do this test on the enrolment platform at least a fortnight before the first day of enrolment.

CPNL regulations set the number of places for the various types of courses. Online courses have a limited number of places to ensure the quality of teaching and learning. In each course, a tutor monitors students' progress on an individual basis: they mark written assignments, review oral interventions, assess the student's learning and in some cases prepare live classes.
Each course is priced by level and length. You can see the registration fee and discounts in the CPNL course price table.
