Since 2017, the CPNL has been progressively implementing Catalan conversation exercises in teaching activities. Currently, all Basic 3 students are practising the language in the schools that collaborate with the Volunteering for Language programme (VxL) as part of their course work, but outside the classroom and without the direct support of the teacher.
Over 4,000 establishments collaborate with the VxL. They are all committed to speaking Catalan with anyone who addresses them in this language and, therefore, they help learners gain fluency in everyday situations.
Conversation practice is a relevant exercise because, besides practising conversation in real contexts, learners establish links and relationships in Catalan, so that their habit of using Catalan extends to new interlocutors in their social network.
